Moving in Place: More Than Boxes
A reflection and roadmap for meaningful movement
This book exists for moments when something is shifting—but it’s hard to name exactly what.
When a move carries more than logistics.
When change feels emotional, cultural, or tied to identity.
When you’re not looking for quick answers, but for language, perspective, and steadiness.
Moving in Place is meant to be a place to land.
What This Book Explores
Moving in Place: More Than Boxes explores the emotional, cultural, and identity-based layers of transition.
Through lived experience and social science, it reveals the deeper patterns that shape how people move—
what they keep,
what they release,
what they avoid,
and what their spaces quietly say about who they are becoming.
This is not a book about boxes alone.
It is a book about meaning, choice, and movement with intention.
I wrote Moving in Place because too many people are asked to move through major transitions without language for what they are actually carrying.
Moves are often treated as logistical events—something to get through quickly, efficiently, and quietly.
But in reality, they are moments of responsibility, identity, grief, growth, and reckoning.
People are expected to decide what to keep, what to let go of, and what comes next—often while overwhelmed, under-supported, and unsure how to name what’s happening beneath the surface.
This book was written to slow that moment down.
It offers space to notice what is shifting, to understand the patterns shaping your decisions, and to move forward with clarity rather than urgency. It does not tell you what to do. It helps you understand why this moment matters—so the choices you make are grounded, intentional, and your own.
Moving in Place exists as a companion for transition.
A place to land.
A way to orient before anything moves.
About the Author
Jevata Crawford
Founder, Project MOVE | Author of Moving in Place
I am the founder of Project MOVE and the creator of The MOVING Method™—a planning-first, human-centered framework designed to provide structure, navigate complex transitions with clarity, structure, and care.
For years, I have guided individuals and families through some of life’s most stressful moments: moving homes, clearing estates, downsizing after loss, and reorganizing life after major change. What I learned early on is that people are rarely overwhelmed by boxes alone.
They are overwhelmed by what the boxes hold.
Memory.
Responsibility.
Fear.
Identity.
Hope.
My work exists to slow these moments down—so people can understand what is shifting before deciding what comes next.
I live and work in the Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania, serving clients locally and supporting others through writing, speaking, and guided planning work.
